Facelift in Turkey: What to Expect and How to Choose a Surgeon

A guide to rhytidectomy (facelift) surgery in Turkey — techniques, costs, choosing the right surgeon, and recovery.

Key Takeaways
  • Facelift in Turkey costs €4,000–€9,000, compared to €10,000–€20,000+ in the UK or US.
  • A facelift addresses the lower two-thirds of the face; brow lift and blepharoplasty are separate procedures for the upper third.
  • Deep plane facelift provides the most natural and longest-lasting results but requires an experienced specialist — verify case volume.
  • Recovery: visible bruising for 2 weeks, socially presentable at 4–6 weeks, final result visible at 3–6 months.
  • Overall health and skin quality matter more than age — a good surgeon will assess candidacy honestly.

Overview

A facelift (rhytidectomy) repositions sagging facial tissues, removes excess skin, and addresses laxity of the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) — the deep tissue layer beneath the skin. It is the most impactful surgical intervention for facial ageing.

Turkey's facelift volume has grown significantly as international patients over 50 seek the cost savings available. Prices range from €3,500–€7,000 versus €10,000–€18,000 in Western Europe.

Technique Options

SMAS Facelift (Standard): Addresses both skin and the SMAS layer beneath. Longer-lasting results than skin-only lifts. The most common technique for comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Deep Plane Facelift: Releases deeper facial ligaments for more natural repositioning of tissues. Considered by many surgeons to produce the most natural, durable outcome. Technically demanding — seek surgeons with specific deep plane experience.

Mini Facelift / Short Scar: Smaller incisions, addresses early jowling and neck laxity. Faster recovery, shorter-lasting results. Best for patients in their 40s with moderate change.

MACS Lift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension): Uses purse-string sutures through smaller incisions. Popular with European surgeons as a more limited intervention. Results are good for early–moderate ageing.

Neck Lift: Can be done independently or as part of facelift. Addresses turkey neck, platysmal banding, and excess submental fat.

Cost Overview

| Procedure | Turkey | UK | Germany | |-----------|--------|----|----| | Mini / MACS facelift | €3,500–€5,000 | €8,000–€12,000 | €9,000–€13,000 | | Full SMAS facelift | €5,000–€7,000 | €12,000–€18,000 | €13,000–€20,000 | | Deep plane | €6,000–€9,000 | €15,000–€22,000 | €16,000–€25,000 | | Facelift + neck lift | €6,000–€9,000 | €14,000–€20,000 | €15,000–€22,000 |

Recovery Timeline

Facelift recovery is longer than most patients expect. Plan accordingly.

  • Days 0–5: Hospital or recovery hotel. Bandages, drains. Significant swelling and bruising.
  • Days 5–10: Drains removed, dressings lightened. Bruising peaks then starts to resolve.
  • Days 10–14: Most presentable. Can fly home at day 14 minimum (day 21 preferred for longer flights).
  • Week 3–4: Most visible bruising resolved. Incision lines still pink.
  • Month 2: Majority of swelling resolved. Result beginning to be apparent.
  • Month 3–6: Incision lines fade to white. Final result visible.

Surgeon Selection — Critical Considerations

Facelift results more than almost any other aesthetic procedure are directly attributable to surgeon skill and technique. Generic plastic surgery board certification is necessary but not sufficient.

Ask specifically:

  • What technique do you recommend for my anatomy and degree of ageing, and why?
  • How many facelifts do you perform per year? (Seek surgeons performing 100+)
  • Can I see photos of patients at my age with a similar degree of change?
  • Will you perform the surgery from start to finish?

Be wary of surgeons who offer facelifts as a sidebar to primarily rhinoplasty or breast practices. Facial surgery specialisation matters for this procedure.

What Facelift Cannot Address

A facelift repositions and removes — it does not improve skin quality, reduce fine lines, or add volume. A comprehensive facial rejuvenation plan may include:

  • Fat grafting (adds volume lost with ageing)
  • Laser resurfacing or chemical peel (improves skin texture)
  • Brow lift (addresses brow descent and forehead lines)
  • Upper/lower blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)

These can be combined with a facelift or done sequentially. Discuss a comprehensive plan with your surgeon.
