What Is a Tummy Tuck?

Recovery — Plan Carefully
Abdominoplasty has one of the more demanding recovery profiles in aesthetic surgery. You cannot rush it.

- Days 4–7: Drains removed. Walking permitted, still bent forward. Significant swelling.
- Week 2: Can begin to straighten. Most patients can fly at day 14 minimum.
- Week 3–4: Light walking. Compression garment 24/7.
- Week 6: Cleared for driving and light daily activities.
- Week 8–12: Return to exercise (no core work until surgeon approval).

Do not plan to fly before day 14. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) risk is elevated after abdominoplasty, and early long-haul flying compounds this risk significantly.
Diastasis Repair
Most women with post-pregnancy abdominal changes have diastasis recti — separation of the abdominal muscles. Abdominoplasty includes internal sutures to bring these muscles together, which both tightens the abdomen and can resolve functional issues (back pain, core weakness). Confirm your surgeon will address diastasis as part of the procedure.
The Mummy Makeover
Tummy tuck is frequently combined with breast surgery (augmentation, lift, or reduction) in what clinics call a "mummy makeover." This can be cost-effective but increases anaesthesia time and recovery complexity. Reputable clinics will limit what can safely be combined in one session. Be cautious of packages that include more than 2 major procedures.
Candidacy Requirements
